The families, children and young people’s department of the local council invites families to come to an action-packed fair which will be held in Rheydt marketplace and Marktstraße on the 26th of May from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. The town’s children’s and youth centres and adventure playgrounds, the peripatetic youth work service, family centres and day nurseries as well as other departments of Mönchengladbach city council will be showcasing their services and providing a varied range of games and activities. Voluntary public children’s and youth services will also be showing the activities that they provide for children, young people and families. Lots of associations, initiatives, organisations and companies are supporting the fair with interesting and imaginative ideas. The many attractions will include the street soccer league, a hockey pitch, face-painting for children, creative painting and handicraft sessions, a skateboard workshop, a double-sided climbing wall, a bungee trampoline, and an artists’ stall. Borussia Mönchengladbach’s “Jünter” mascot will be attending for an autograph session, and “Goldi”, the mascot of Sparkasse Mönchengladbach, will also be dropping in and handing out free balloons. Dörte Schall, the head of the council’s social department, will be officially opening the family fair at 1:15 p.m. Immediately after the ceremony the band ‘Sugar Daddys’ will kick off the stage events and get everyone in a the mood for the wide range of dancing and musical performances that follow. These will include Thomas Wimmer and his children’s pop group, the ‘Mandolinis’, the North Rhine-Westphalia Turkish choir, and the Iriski dance troupe.

This year there’s a big lottery where you can win 20-euro vouchers for the bookstore or for the bowling alley at the PE 12 youth club which are provided by the local Schaffrath interior design company. Another highlight will be the fact that all the children and young people attending will be given a little present. The attractions are all free. And there’ll be a range of culinary delights to make sure you don’t go hungry! A small charge will be made for food and drink.
