For some people it’s a trip back in time, for others it’s just about the pleasure of having a “good rummage”. There’s no doubt that going to a flea market is one of the most popular pastimes in Germany. It’s about seeking out hidden treasures, chatting and talking shop with complete strangers who have similar interests, and bidding for and buying both necessary and completely superfluous items – and as well as the fun it’s an opportunity for people to earn a bit of cash.
In Mönchengladbach flea markets are organised by a variety of different groups.
A distinction is made between flea markets which are held during normal shopping hours, in particular on Saturdays, and established markets on Sundays and public holidays.
