The current situation in relation to the spread of the corona virus and its economic consequences poses special challenges for many businesses – and in particular for many retailers – in Mönchengladbach. The former MG platform on eBay has been replaced by the new eBay your City platform. However, the principle behind it remains the same, to support local businesses and offer them an online platform. With eBay your City, cities in Germany can create their own local online marketplace in cooperation with eBay.
For buyers, eBay your City thus means convenient online shopping at retailers of their choice, completely independent of local opening hours. The fact that items can be paid for on request only when they are collected locally makes shopping even easier and saves on shipping costs. Conversely, it is also possible to select in-store, pay online and choose home delivery. Alternatively, many products can be bought directly online and sent to a desired address.
Not only buyers, but also shopkeepers in Mönchengladbach can rejoice: via eBay your City, traders can easily offer their items online without having to run their own online shop. This way, traders can generate additional sales via this local online marketplace. All local items and offers are not only displayed on the local platform, but are also listed in eBay’s national marketplace. At the start of the project, 400 commercial traders with 200,000 items are represented on the online platform. The shops that are included offer a wide variety of assortments ranging from jewellery and delicatessen, toys and sporting goods to electronics and leisure supplies.
Retailers should therefore now seize the opportunity and join the portal. As an additional benefit, eBay offers free customer service and a waiver of the sales commission for the first three months.
