Bunker Güdderath

Bunker Güdderath opened its doors to the public for the first time in the autumn of 2019 – and visitors were full of enthusiasm and praise for it. In a total of 15 rooms covering an area of 740 square metres visitors can now view works by artists Zdzislawa Worozanska-Sacher and Bepe` Meilenstein in very personal tours including a lot of commentary and discussion. This special location and the unconventional exhibition that was held there prompted the WDR TV station’s ‘Westart’ cultural magazine show to broadcast an entire programme from the bunker, and consequently to pay tribute to this new Mönchengladbach cultural hotspot.

In addition, the “Herbstzeitlose” series of events to be held at Bunker Güdderath over the course of the autumn will also feature numerous concerts and inter-disciplinary events in the very special atmosphere of the concert hall that has been created by Bernhard Petz. The bunker accommodates an audience of 80 people within its massive concrete walls, and it features a cut-out ceiling – the remnants of which will form the stage platform (weighing several tonnes) for musicians, singers, actors and the footlights. The room’s openness to the other bunker rooms and its clear spatial proportions make it an acoustic platform that provides clarity and immediacy even for people in the back row of the audience.

The bunker is not barrier-free and it’s not heated.
