Gladbach Hockey and Tennis Club (Gladbacher Hockey- und Tennis Club 1919 e.V.)
Competitive and recreational sport in Mönchengladbach and the Lower Rhine region
The hockey teams at the Gladbach Hockey and Tennis Club have in the past been championship runners-up, winners of the German cup competition, and German champions. Since January this year the men’s first team has once again been playing in the top division of the German indoor league. In 2016 the tennis team competing in the national leagues won the German championship. At the same time we were awarded the “Green Ribbon” by the DOSB (German Olympic Sports Confederation) for exemplary youth work.
The GHTC actively nurtures talent and is consequently a key part of the elite sport strategy pursued by the regional sports federation (LSB) and the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. It works in cooperation with both the Vitusschule primary school and the North Rhine-Westphalia sports school (NRW Sportschule) and provides coaching at both schools.
For 100 years now the club has provided the best sports facilities in Mönchengladbach, both for ambitious elite players and also for recreational players and families and children.

The Rheydt Hockey Club
The club is based in the “hockey capital” of Mönchengladbach, immediately next door to the German Hockey Federation (DHB) in the Hockeypark. It has two modern artificial grass pitches here which it uses for training and matches. It consequently provides one of the finest hockey stadiums in Germany for championship matches. The Hockeypark has team changing rooms, a sports bar, and a sports academy – an ideal facility for combining school studies and sport in a social setting.
The RHC is a member of the West German Hockey Federation (WHV), and it enters its teams in the championships that are held in the various leagues. However it also makes use of the support and know-how provided by the governing body and by the regional sports federation.
Hockey is an attractive and social team sport, in particular for young people and children. The idea behind Rheydt Hockey Club is to make hockey affordable for young players of the game, and to make it compatible with their school studies. The objectives of the club are the promotion of social skills based on the principle of equal opportunities, and to provide sporting opportunities at both the recreational and elite levels. The main aim is to train young people to be good team players – with team sport complementing their school work and studies. And of course for them to have fun at the club!
