NEIGHBOURHOOD WHISPERING IN Rheydt

What makes
Rheydt so beautiful

The district of Rheydt in the South of Mönchengladbach is considered an intercultural and lively district with a remarkable history, which is still memorialised by many architectural buildings. Rheydt’s market square is not only a central meeting place with its many seating areas and adjacent cafés and restaurants, but also a venue for many major events such as the traditional Turmfest. On Wednesdays and Saturdays, the popular Rheydt weekly market with local vendors takes place here, with a view of the main Protestant church and the historic town hall. In the summer months, a varied cultural programme is offered at market time, making the simple weekly shop a real experience.
From the market square, you can browse in small boutiques and shops along Hauptstrasse, Marktstrasse and Stresemannstrasse.
The colourful Harmonieplatz, which has recently been artfully designed, not only invites the little ones to play, but also offers cosy seating for the adults.

Whether it’s a walk in the Maria-Lenssen-Garten or Hugo-Junkers-Park, a visit to the Renaissance moated castle and the adjoining Rheydt Castle Museum or looking at architectural buildings, Rheydt and its districts still have a lot to offer all around the district centre! The townscape in and around Rheydt is characterised by hidden beauties and special buildings, starting with the Maria-Lenssen-Berufskolleg, the old buildings on Brucknerallee, the Stadtkassenportal and the Alte Post. Not far away is the theatre with its beautiful theatre park.
The city’s textile history is also visible in Rheydt. It is not for nothing that the Textile Academy NRW is located at the Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences at Dahl. Close to the academy is the TextilTechnikum, where the textile past comes alive for visitors.
