Shopping trips in MG city centre

Hindenburgstraße is a long, rising street which is the central shopping street in Mönchengladbach. From Mönchengladbach central station it goes all the way up to the Alter Markt which has a wide range of cafes and restaurants on the edge of the old town. There’s a great variety of different shops. As you stroll past the shop fronts you will discover some traditional owner-run shops as well as the big brand-name stores.

In the middle of Hindenburgstraße – directly in front of Sonnenhausplatz and the 7-piece artwork “Donkey’s Way” by the famous artist Rita McBride – is the 4-star “Minto” shopping centre. The striking architecture of the shopping centre which was opened in March 2015 contains an exciting mix of big chain stores and smaller shops as well as a food court which has won many prizes. Really big car parks, rest areas and a customer-focused welcoming service providing everything from walking frames to bottle warmers ensure that you’ll enjoy a really first-rate shopping experience.

It’s also definitely worthwhile leaving Hindenburgstraße and nipping off down the side streets: Friedrichstraße and Wallstraße – both of which lead off Hindenburgstraße – are small but high-class shopping districts. Here instead of large chain stores there are small independently owned boutiques, shops selling artworks and handicrafts, cafes and restaurants, as well as various types of hairdressing salons.
