The town centre of Mönchengladbach-Rheydt is the second most important centre after Mönchengladbach city centre. Rheydt marketplace in the south of Mönchengladbach is a focal point for numerous shops, cafes and restaurants – making a shopping trip a real pleasure. It’s very lively on market days. The weekly market is generally held on Wednesdays and Saturdays in Marktplatz in Rheydt and in Hauptstraße next to it, and its popularity extends far beyond the town itself.
The shopping area isn’t just along one straight street as in the case of Hindenburgstraße in Mönchengladbach, instead it’s a shopping district. Marienplatz in Rheydt together with the Rheydt Galerie shopping centre between Stresemannstraße and Hauptstraße forms the busy southern hub of the city. From here you can discover numerous shops, bars and restaurants in the adjoining streets. Big-name labels as well as small, more personal shops provide a varied shopping experience.
